IT Security – Is Your Business Cyber Safe?

Introduction

The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025-2026 was commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the Home Office. It provides a comprehensive overview of the cyber security landscape for UK businesses and charities. In this blog we ask is your business cyber safe?

Cyber Attacks on the Rise?

Recent high profile attacks on Jaguar Land Rover, Co-op, Marks & Spencer and Harrods are just some of the news headlines we have seen. However, dig deeper and the numbers are very scary indeed.

  • 43% of businesses attacked in the last 12 months
  • 28% of charities attacked in the last 12 months

Believe it or not, these figures actually show a decline since 2023/24! While this is good news, when attacks such as the one on JLR are estimated to have cost £50 million per week – the overall picture is that of an ongoing battle.

Most Common Attacks

Phishing is by far the most common form of attack, seeking to extract passwords, payment information or as a vehicle to install Malware. Over 90% of businesses have experienced these attacks.

Hacking has been experienced by up to 8% of organisations, a direct attack on the system itself.

Ransomware, Viruses and Denial of Service make up the rest of cyber attacks experienced, with about 10% of organisations experiencing these.

Cyber Security Precautions

From government initiatives to Cyber Essentials certification, dedicated software to employee awareness training – there is a wealth of defences for organisations to protect against cyber attacks. Ask yourself, is your business cyber safe?

Each business is unique and therefore the security required is too. The NCSC, National Cyber Security Centre, offers advice for businesses of all types.

The Importance of Supply Partners

The weakest link in your cyber security may well be an external partner. If you have third party into your systems for logistics, customer service, accounts, sales or purchasing – are you confident they are robust?

The Future
